A
free, Open Source audio Player supporting almost every audio
format (including those listed in this page)
foobar2000
not only natively includes almost every codec, but it is
one of the few players which supports ASIO driven devices - if
not the only one.
A
free Player wich can use WinAmp plug-ins.
XMPlay
is quite similar to WinAmp, without suffering of its
gigantism, and without purporting to play videos. It
can nevertheless play almost any audio format, thanks to
its Winamp plug-in support, too. It is very light, it
doesn't require installation, so that it will not smear you
registry.

General-purpose
compressors
These are the renowned zip-like compressors for
generic files, text files and similar.
A very good free, Open Source, compressor is
7-zip, better that the usual zip-rar compressors,
which makes use of its own format 7z, besides the
usual zip standard formats. Better results are
achieved using the 7z format. Available in 59
localizations (languages), it is perfectly
integrated in windows explorer. Unfortunately, only
for windows, with the exception of a command-line
version for Linux. It handles (i.-e. it decompress,
but not generates) rar files.

A good, free zipper, which supports almost every
known format, is ALZip.
It can open and decompress rar archives, as well as
the ace and iso (CD images) archives.
A free zipper suite, which supports also the 7z
format is ZipGenius,
available in many different languages. Only or
windows, helas.
